Gregg Blundell today reflected upon a terrible season for himself and Chester City and hopes, as one of just four contracted players next term, to blast City up the league table.

He said: ?It?s been a terrible season for me ? not so much on form, but because of all the injury problems I?ve had.

?The most important thing is getting results for the team. I?ve been playing in a few different positions of late, but Derek (Asamoah) has been scoring enough goals for all three of our strikers at the moment.

?I?m just hoping I can score a couple between now and the end of the season and set myself up for next season. I feel I have a lot more to offer and I?ve been a little disappointed with the way I have been playing throughout the season, so I?m hoping I can show the fans that all my troubles are behind me.

?I?m just gutted that the end of the season is coming so soon because I?ve had no end of problems, but I feel as though I?m now getting my fitness back.

?I missed the start of the season after a training ground injury, I was out for three months with a thigh injury, and I was knocked out during the first few minutes of our home game against Rochdale after a collision with their keeper.

?I just want to now make sure that Chester are safe for next season, go away for the summer, and I owe it to myself, the manager and the fans to show them what they bought in the summer isn?t what they?ve been seeing of late.

?Hopefully I can put it all right next season.

?The fact that I?ve been tagged as Chester?s record signing hasn?t bothered me because I was scoring when I played earlier in the season.

?But maybe I shouldn?t have come back from my injuries as quick as I did because I?ve struggled to regain any form.

?I know the fans pay their money and they?ve got on my back a little bit, but hopefully now they can see the effort I?m putting in.

?I thought I was going to continue to keep banging the goals in when I started to score earlier in the season, but my injuries and a lack of confidence saw the goals dry up, but I?m not missing chances because I?m not really getting them at the moment. The chances are falling to other players, but I?ve got to make sure that when a chance does fall to me that I?m there and I?m clinical with it.?
