It is reported that Chester City chairman and owner Stephen Vaughan took the first step to taking a controlling interest at Widnes Vikings Rugby Club at the club’s AGM on Monday Night.

Vaughan has bought an initial £25k of shares in the Vikings and will purchase a further £165k over the next 12 months.

If all goes well, Vaughan is then set to buy the shares of current chairman Tony Chambers which will ultimately give him a controlling interest in the Rugby club.

The club’s shareholders voted in favour of Vaughan joining the board of directors and it is believed the move could be a fore-runner to Coca-Cola League Two side Chester relocating to the Halton Stadium.
