Newly appointed Mark Wright was unable to guide Chester City to victory against Morecambe in his first game in charge at the Deva Stadium.

Both sides were reduced to ten men in an action packed game, but Chester fell two goals behind after another dismall defensive display.

Morecambe took the lead just after the half hour mark when Craig Stanley picked up Stewart Drummond’s pass, after dummy by Rene Howe, to slam the ball home.

The advantage was doubled after 56 minutes after a rash challenge by Laurence Wilson on Danny Carlton gifted the visitors a penalty. The spot-kick was dispatched with Carlton sending John Danby the wrong way.

Then came an unexpected revival and Chester gave themselves hope with a goal on the hour-mark through City born striker, Eddie Johnson.

He bagged a consolation goal, his first for the club with a downward header into a bottom corner.
