Chester City boss Mark Wright must surely believe his SOS resuce mission at the Saunders Honda Stadium is now complete!

A memorable 2-1 victory over arch rivals Wrexham sent City fans delerious on Wednesday night. Ben Davies had fired Chester in front from the penalty spot before Lee McEvilly equalised for the visitors on 69 minutes.

It was left to in-form striker Derek Asamoah to wrap up the win and Wright now believes City have safety in their sights.

Commenting after the win he said: ‘This result puts us on 49 points and I don’t think any side has ever gone down with that amount, and that’s a massive achievement for us. This means a lot to us and our supporters.

‘I thought we fully deserved the win and perhaps could have won by more. I knew that if we got in at half-time level, then we could go on and win it.

‘Some of our football wasn’t pretty, but then relegation battles rarely are pretty.’
