Bristol Rovers made an approach for Chester manager Keith Curle following the departure of Ian Atkins last month.

Chairman Stephen Vaughan turned down the approach for the young and ambitious manager. He was always going to be a target for other clubs because of the fabulous job he is doing at Chester.

Curle said: ‘I had a call from the chairman saying there had been contact and that he had said he was refusing permission so that’s the end of it. I started my playing career at Bristol Rovers. I have a lot of fond memories and it’s nice to be linked. But it’s recognition of what’s happening here. I’m not disappointed that the chairman said no – I would have been disappointed if he’d said yes.’

However reports in the Bristol Evening Post suggest Keith Curle is still amongst the favourites to take the managers position at Bristol Rovers.

The report claims that despite the fact Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan has refused permission for Rovers to talk to Curle, the former Rovers player is interested in the job. It is believed that Curle is interested in a return to his home town where he has family links.

He has currently helped hard up Chester City to 5th place in the table having overhauled the squad.
