It appears that Warnock wants to appoint Chester manager Keith Curle as his assistant and Chester’s chairman Stephen Vaughan has said ‘It is our understanding, that if Neil Warnock gets the job, Keith will go as his assistant. We have a decent working relationship and I won’t stand in his way. We can’t compete with the wages or level of football they would be offering.’

Curle has stated ‘At the moment nothing has happened and all I’m doing is watching videos and reading match reports to prepare my team to face Nottingham Forest.’

A club statement from Sheffield United has confirmed they have given Neil Warnock permission to talk to Portsmouth about their vacant managers post vacated by Alain Perrin last week.

The statement read: ‘After a long discussion and careful consideration Sheffield United have reluctantly agreed, conditional on suitable compensation, to make Neil Warnock available to speak to Portsmouth. The continued success of the club has been paramount to the thinking and in these difficult times it is imperative for supporters to get behind the club.’

Mandaric has said he is considering ‘two other candidates’ as well as Warnock; but the Blades boss has been favourite to takeover from the start and if he does enter talks, you would expect him to agree terms, especially when reports suggest he will be offered a 3 1/2 year deal worth £1million a season.
