We’ve had a tremendous response to our Chester City supporters questionnaire. Please keep them coming in! Today Chester City fan John Murray shares his memories today…

If you’d like to get your views published on the Vital Chester City network, simply e-mail your answers to our nine questions to chester@vitalfootball.co.uk. The best will be published right here on the Vital Chester City network.

Q1 – How long have you been following Chester City Football Club and what was your first game?

I’d say I’ve supported the club properly for 10 years, although my first game was in April 1994 v Colchester. We won 2-1 with an injury time goal

Q2 – What is your most memorable moment as a Chester City fan? Best and Worse.

Best has got to be winning the Conference in 2004. We were in an appalling state when we went down and to come back from all that felt incredible. I was also there when we secured promoted from Division 3 in 1994 but I was too young to really remember it. Worst has to be going out of the league in 2000, and year or so of Terry Smith’s reign as chairman that followed. The guy was completely and utterly off his trolley and would’ve killed the club.

Q3 – Since you have been following Chester City, what would your best eleven? And who is your all time favourite player?

GK Ron Sinclair

F Kevin McIntyre, Stuart Hicks, Danny Collins, Iain Jenkins

F Michael Twiss, Paul Carden, Roberto Martinez, Rod Thomas

W Stuart Rimmer, Luke Beckett

My all time favourite was probably Carl Ruffer. Not a brilliant player, just a real toughnut who would bust a gut for the club

Q4 – What would you say is the best goal you have seen Chester City score?

Junior Agogo v Cheltenham in 1999. Cracking finish after skinning about seven players, no exaggeration!

Q5 – Best away ground visited?

Probably Blackburn in 2001, although I’ve missed out on two trips to the Stadium of Light

Q6 – Which player(s) would you like to see The Blues sign (realistically)?

We haven’t really had a consistent goalscorer since Daryl Clare in the Conference days. We’ve been linked with Paul Taylor from Vauxhall Motors, if he can make the step-up he could be very interesting as he’s scored bucketloads in the Conference North.

Q7 – What are your thoughts on how last season ended and how did it compare to your expectations?

Extremely disappointing. We completely fell apart after Christmas and underachieved massively. It was a very decent side we had at the start of the season. More care must be put into keeping a stable side throughout a season, as it’s not the first time this has happened.

Q8 -What are your expectations for next season in League Two?

Survival at best. We can’t progress under this chairman.

Q9 – Where do you sit / stand at the Deva Stadium?

I usually stand in the Harry McNally Terrace
