Chester’s attempts to sign defender Dean Gordon have been dashed due to red tape. The 33-year-old former Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough man has been training with City but due to a short-term deal with Blackpool overlapping with the end of the transfer window, Chester are unable to bring him to the club.

City boss Keith Curle said: ‘We worked tirelessly to try to sign him. It’s an issue that needs to be looked at if players are going to be signing short-term contracts.’
