The non league media have reported that Chester City midfielder Tom Curtis has been confirmed as a summer target for Nationwide Conference National club Burton Albion.

The former Derby County junior, who played 230 matches for Chesterfield, lives locally and followed former manager Keith Curle to Chester City from Mansfield Town at the beginning of this season.

At 33, Curtis is a little older than Burton manager Nigel Clough’s usual targets but, having successfully lowered the average age of his squad, Clough will feel that some experience will not come amiss.

‘Tom is certainly one we’re interested in and it’s the fact that he’s local and out of contract at the end of the season that alerted us,’ said Clough in a recent report.

‘He did very well against us in the pre-season game against Chester City and we will go through the proper channels and talk to Chester manager Mark Wright about him.’

Clough describes Curtis as being on a ‘pretty small’ list of summer targets which he hopes to act on sooner than usual, having secured the services of the majority of his existing squad for next season already. More news to come as this story develops…
