Peterborough saw their slender play-off hopes shattered following a frustrating 1-1 draw with Chester at the Saunders Honda Stadium.

City took the lead on 13 minutes after a defensive howler by Adam Newton whose attempted back header went straight to Simon Yeo who cleverly lobbed the ball over Mark Tyler.

Peterborough got the goal their pressure deserved when 18 minutes from time a cross from Craig Mackail-Smith was put into his own net by Dave Artell.

However, it proved to little too late, with frsutrated manager Darren Ferguson dismissed from the dug-out with minutes remaining.

Player Ratings

John Danby
On the day he picked up the club’s player of the season award, he did nothing wrong in the game.

Phil Bolland
A captains performance filled with composure and assurance.

Paul Linwood
Put in a few solid tackles and did well to deny some strong attacking moves from United.

David Artell
Scored the own goal that gave Peterborough a point but apart from that was his usual solid best.

Sean Hessey
The usual gritty performance from Hessey but looked like he will be glad to put this season to an end.

Jamie Hand
Had on free kick effort swerve just wide of the right-hand post in the second half but again failed to impress otherwise.

Glenn Cronin
Largely anonymous as he has been for the whole season but at least he is now fit enough to play games.

Paul Rutherford
In the week that he signed a deal that will keep him at Chester next season, Ruther’s was not as effective as he has been in recent weeks.

Simon Yeo
Took his goal really well and almost made it two shortyl afterwards. Dangerous running always posed a threat to the United defence.

Lee Steele
Looks like he is suffering from being used sparringly by Wright and not getting the kind of service that his fast-paced game demands.

Laurence Wilson
Clearly isn’t 100% fit and is likely to have an operation over the summer. A subdued performance against Posh.

Chris Holroyd
Came on for Lee Steele after 58 minutes and failed to impress as City sat back.

Alex Meechan
An 84th minute substitution from Paul Rutherford. His contract expires after next weekend’s game thankfully.

Manager Rating
The time has clearly come for Wright to walk away before he is sacked by Vaughan. Nothing the fans saw in this game changes that view.

Opponent Rating
Darren Ferguson was almost as red-faced as his Dad when he was sent to the stands for foul and abusive language. City’s fans took great delight in waving goodbye to the former Wrexham man.
