Survival in the Balance

OXFORD United hopes of avoiding relegation took a massive blow after a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Chester City.

The U’s turned out a truly dismal display that has sent alarm bells ringing amongst staff, players and fans alike.

City’s Derek Asamoah scored the only goal form what seemed an offside position. But the winger turned beautifully and ran into the area and slotted the ball home under keeper Andrea Guatelli.

Asamoah could have had another in the second half after forcing Chris Willmott into a stupid error only to run on and blast the ball wide of the far hand post.

United didn’t even muster a shot of note and now lie only a single point above the drop zone. Jim Smith will have his work cut out if he is to turn around the side’s fortunes based on this performance. But if anyone can do it Jim can!
