Former Chester City player Ashley Westwood has agreed a deal that will keep him at arch rivals, Wrexham until next summer, the Welsh non-league club have revealed today.

The former Chester City, Crewe Alexandra and Sheffield Wednesday centre half has been on form since arriving at the Racecourse last month, as one of new manager, Dean Saunders, first recruits.

With 300 Premier and Football League appearances to his credit, he has brought plenty of experience to the back line as Wrexham plot a quick return to the Football League.

Ashley was with Stevenage Borough last season, but following a change of manager at the Broadway Stadium, he decided against seeing out the remaining 12 months of his contract.

Although training with a number of clubs during the closed season, he was without a new deal once the summer transfer window shut at the end of August, so was free to still join a new team when the right offer came along.
